Last week I told you all about the benefits of blogging for your business. So this week I want to talk to you about how you can write blog posts that people love.

By the way, if you want some practical guidance on using blogging and social media for PR don’t forget to check out my online masterclass.

The benefits of blogging are huge – according to leading marketing software company, Hubspot, small businesses that blog get 55% more website visitors, 102% more Twitter followers, and 126% higher lead growth than non-blogging businesses. Pretty convincing figures, right?

But how do you write compelling blog posts that people love reading and sharing? Read on…

Do your research

You want your blog posts to help position you as an authority, so spend time reading up on your subject so that you know what you’re talking about.

Write a kick-ass headline

Your headline needs to be snappy, informative, and easy to share. That means it’s best to keep it on the short side, as a long headline will be difficult to share when you’re promoting it on social media with a limited number of characters at your disposal.

Write readable copy

Your copy needs to be clear, concise and enlightening. Make it easy to read, and engrossing enough that people will want to read on.

Keep it short and sweet

Ideally, your sentences should be succinct, as should your paragraphs. Your blog post should be anywhere between 250 and 600 words, and you should aim to break up the text with bullet points or numbered sections.

Use an eye-catching image

Every blog post should include at least one image. This will entice your reader to continue reading, plus research shows that Facebook posts with images are more likely to be shared. You can find free images for your blog posts or consider subscribing to a stock photo service.

Include a Call To Action

Ensure you include a relevant Call To Action in your post to encourage readers to leave comments, share your post, contact you, etc.

Make your post easy to share

Always include social media sharing buttons in your post so that people can easily share it with their networks.

So there you have it, my top tips on writing blog posts that people love.
