During the last couple of weeks I’ve told you about the benefits of blogging, and how to write blog posts that people love. This week I want to show you how to use your blog for PR.
If you’d like practical guidance on this, check out my online masterclass How To Use Blogging & Social Media For PR Success.
Here’s my practical guide to creating a blog that will get you publicity for your business…
Pick a blog platform
First things first, if you don’t already have a blog, you need to pick out a blogging platform. The most popular and arguably the most user-friendly is WordPress. It’s easy to set up yourself, or if you’re looking for a really polished look, get an expert to set it up for you. You can customise it so that it looks how you want it and fits in with your brand, and there are plenty of plugins so that you can have all the functionality that you need. Sorted.
Plan you posts
Plan out your blog posts a month or so in advance so that you’re never caught short. Think about the topics you want to cover, and the format you want to use (editorial, graphics, video, etc). But remember, just because you’ve planned your blogs out, doesn’t mean to have to stick your schedule rigidly. Feeling ranty after reading something in the news? Why not write an ad-hoc blog post in response to it? Read a fantabulous post by a well known blogger in your industry? Pen a response and then blog it, with a link to the original post of course.
Decide how often you’d like to blog and try to stick to it. Once a week is a good starting point, and remember, if you are struggling to come up with something new each week you can write a shorter post (a minimum of 300 words is good), include a guest post or do a round-up of posts on a particular subject.Ta-dah! You’re all set for blogging for publicity. Why not leave me a comment below with a link to your blog and I’ll check it out…
