Mother’s Day falls on March 30th this year – will you be doing anything special to mark it? Taking mum out for lunch? Presenting her with a bunch of flowers? Sending a card?
The truth is, while pretty much every notable day in the calendar has been claimed by Hallmark, these special days can be really handy when you’re thinking about your PR campaign.
Last month I talked about how you can get famous on Valentine’s Day, and Mother’s Day is no different.
The trick is to get in there early enough that you can let publications know about your Mother’s Day news, before the big day.
Editors and journalists are constantly on the lookout for relevant news and features, and something that ties in with an important calendar date will always be of interest to them. In fact, you’ll often find journalists doing ‘shout outs’ for news and stories to tie in with days like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter, Christmas, et al.
If you can provide a press release that ties in with Mother’s Day this year, you’ll actually be doing the journalist a favour!
So what kind of thing should you be writing about in your Mother’s Day press release?
- Mother’s Day gifts – flowers, cosmetics, skincare, chocolates, and other items
- Mother’s Day activities – seasonal events, special Mother’s Day restaurant menus, mum-and-daughter spa days, etc
- Mother’s Day offers – any special offers that tie in with Mother’s Day, this may be relevant if you sell products, or even if you sell services
- Relevant human interest stories – mum and daughter overcoming the odds, mums in business, inspiring stories about mothers, etc
As I mentioned earlier, the trick is to get in there before the big day. So think about the best time to send out your press release so that you’re giving the journalist plenty of notice.
