Interested in DIY PR? Read on…
I’m keeping this week’s blog post purposefully short and sweet because I want to show you the quick and easy things you can do to get started with DIY PR.
With the current economic climate we’re all watching the pennies, and as small business owners this is especially true.
We need to spend our hard-earned money wisely, on things that will bring us great results and help us to grow our businesses.
Which is where DIY PR comes in. PR is like rocket-fuel for your small businesses – it can really give it a boost. But you don’t want to spend a fortune on it.
I’ve recently changed the focus of my business, Dina Behrman Communications, to concentrate solely on teaching small business owners and entrepreneurs to do their own PR.
DIY PR is something that I’m passionate about. With the right tools and guidance all small business owners can carry out their own PR campaigns and get brilliant media coverage. And that media coverage can lead to great things.
But how do you get started with DIY PR? Here are some quick and simple tips for how to get going with a DIY PR campaign. Enjoy!
DIY PR
1. Read the papers
This may sound obvious, but not everyone does it. A good place to start when you’re thinking about PR, is to make sure you’re reading papers and magazines to keep on top of what kind of articles they’re publishing.
2. Think about your story
If you want journalists to write about your business, you need a good story. Think about what yours is. What is it about your business that readers will be interested in? What is it that you can tell journalists to persuade them to write about you?
3. Write your press release
When you have your story, the next step is to write your press release. Need tips on this? Take a look at this post on How To Write A Press Release.
4. Be persistent
PR success won’t necessarily be instant so you need to be prepared to be persistent. Keep at it and you’ll soon find DIY PR success in no time!
