Valentine’s Day – just another cynical money-making exercise by card shops and chocolate manufacturers, right?

Well, yes, that may be the case (although personally, I’ll take any excuse to eat posh chocolates and drink pink champagne). But from a PR point of view, you really should be feeling the love this V-Day.

The fact is, if you often find yourself stuck for ideas on how to publicise your business, seasonal events like Valentine’s Day can be a godsend.

valentine's day

Journalists will always need news and features that tie in with days like Valentine’s Day, Shrove Tuesday, Mother’s Day, Easter, Halloween, Guy Fawke’s Night, Christmas, you name it.

So by sending out well-timed press releases on the back of these days, you’ll soon find yourself being the object of many a journalist’s affection.

The kinds of things journalists will have bee  looking for this Valentine’s Day are:

  • V-Day products like candles, flowers, chocolates, lingerie and perfume
  • Food items – romantic meal ideas, luxury dining, food and drink gifts
  • Ideas for singles – singles’ events, anti-Valentine’s Day ideas, alternative things to do
  • Romantic human interest stories – Valentine’s marriage proposals, love against the odds, inspiring romance stories, unusual dates.

So, why not take a look at the next big seasonal event on the calendar and think about how you can take advantage of it with a well-timed press release…
