Have you set New Year’s Resolutions for this year? Perhaps you want to lose weight, give up smoking, drink less, exercise more? But what about resolutions for your business? If getting media coverage for your business is a goal this year, then take a look at this set of resolutions…

New Year Resolutions

If you want to be featured in magazines, newspapers and blogs it’s important to read more. Think about which publications your ideal clients are reading, and get to know them. In order to carry out a successful PR campaign, it’s a good idea to keep abreast of current affairs, so try to read newspapers or online news sites as often as you can. And it’s important to keep up-to-date with what’s happening in your particular industry area, so read trade publications or specialist magazines to stay on top of what’s going on.

Be more sociable

Online, that is. Social media can be an important tool for a PR campaign, so resolve to spend some time getting to know which social networking platforms are working for you, then focus your energies on the ones that will get you results.

Blog more

Content generation is often a good way to boost your PR efforts, so blogging regularly can really help with that. There’s nothing worse than seeing a neglected blog, so resolve to spend some time working on your blog. Try and plan out some blog posts in advance, and set aside 30 minutes or an hour each week to update your blog with a new post.

Do your research

If you’re keen to get going with a PR campaign it can be tempting to jump straight in, but if you really want your PR efforts to be effective, it’s important to spend time doing your research. The internet is a magnificent tool, and can really help you when it comes to carrying out research, so make the most of it. Research who you are trying to reach with your PR campaign, and the best ways to do so.

Optimise your content

SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is something that will help people find you online, so why not utilise it? If you’re trying to get the word out about your business, product, event, etc, then use keywords in you blog posts, as well as in any press releases you post online, to help the right people come to you.
